Hello there! Stacey here, Managing Partner and lead designer for E-CartCustoms bringing you a few words on branding. I certainly don’t claim to be an expert on branding, but I have had the very fortunate opportunity to meet with some world class branding experts and would like to share what I came away with.
I think its a common misconception when you ask people what a brand is, that they think it’s a logo or emblem.
Branding is not just a logo. It’s not just a design. It’s not just your slogan on a coffee mug or cool t-shirt.
Branding is the reputation you build. It’s an entire strategy of deciding who you are as a company and what you represent to the consumer.
Your brand is developing a mission statement and a slogan that says what your company is about and then working like hell to live up to your promise, to keep it untarnished and to strive to improve the customer experience.
Your brand has a logo, but it’s not the logo itself. It’s the feeling inside the consumer feels when he sees your logo… that is your brand.
I can design you a terrific and beautiful logo that your company will be recognized by, but when it’s up on a wall do passers by see it and think “Oh! I love that company!” or “That company sucks!”? Your reputation decides that, not the logo. The logo is the same logo regardless.
Every company has a brand, whether it’s good or bad, known to only a few or to millions worldwide.
You have to ask yourself honestly — What is my companies brand? Is it a good one? Is it what I want it to be? Those are the questions to start with. Take customer surveys, get feedback, talk to people. Find out what your brand really is and then get to work making it what you want it to be.
